Give your Claude or ChatGPT a record that remembers.
X1 connects to the assistant you already use and answers from your own documents, entities, and decisions, with the source behind each answer. Start with the one question you keep re-explaining.
Build the financial view you wish your software had. Start with one useful question, keep your existing project, and make the answer work with fictional files before connecting your own record.
The starter gives you a portable instruction skill, three recipes and four complete practice exercises. Use it in Claude Code, Codex or another assistant through the setup that host supports. You can begin without an X1 account.
Which party does each property document actually name? Make a table of party, source role, document/page and date. Try the complete property exercise.
Do I have evidence for this entity and this month? Add evidence columns beside your existing bookkeeping checklist. Try the complete bookkeeping exercise.
What do these dated policy records establish? Make a review list separating a historical policy from an offered quote. Try the complete insurance exercise.
What should I ask before changing my workweek? Start with a desired-day worksheet and the first factual question. Try the complete Friday exercise.
The exercises supply the fictional excerpts. They teach a source-reading distinction; they don't establish today's legal owner, reconciled accounts, current coverage or an affordable four-day workweek.
Use Build with X1 to extend my existing private project with a table showing theparties named for one property and their source roles. Keep my stack and existingdata. First make the view work with the fictional property exercise. Explain whenmy existing files suffice and what an X1 connection would add. Inspect only toolsmounted on my connection before wiring real reads. Complete the useful read-onlyresult; do not save, share, upload or send anything as part of this build.
For a native project skill, the folder goes in .claude/skills/ for Claude Code or .agents/skills/ for Codex. Inspect any existing folder before copying. Invoke /build-with-x1 in Claude Code or $build-with-x1 in Codex. The starter page explains the observed host results and the explicit-context fallback when a host can't load the skill or read its reference.
A chat attachment supplies task context; it doesn't install a skill or connect an account. Keep a generated screen and its data adapter separate: a chat's X1 connection does not automatically connect the app it creates.
A capable general assistant can answer a one-off question from files you already have. Use those files when they suffice.
An authorized X1 connection is worth testing when finding the household's relevant evidence, revisiting supported record state or refreshing the sources is part of the work. Ask the builder to make that contribution visible and compare the whole job: setup, finding, checking, refresh and remaining human effort.
When your X1 account supports assistant access, follow the setup for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or another supported MCP app. Check the tools your connection actually exposes, open the returned source and test refresh before relying on the connected view. Account eligibility and the chosen host determine the available path.
The first extension reads. A later saved change needs its own available operation, review and completed result. A local draft remains local until an actual supported operation saves it. Professional/client work uses separately authorized scopes.
Keep the original sources, your view and a short note about what remains unanswered. When a source changes, rerun the same question and check what changed. If you try a different assistant, authenticate it separately; copying an old answer does not prove that the record carried the work.
The starter contains no executable installer, credentials, hooks or MCP configuration. Its examples use fictional records, and the standalone worksheets keep their entries in the page. Your own private files and financial details belong in the environment you have chosen for them.
For ordinary household questions rather than a custom project, start with the assistant setup guide.
