Connect X1 to ChatGPT

Bring your family's records into ChatGPT.

ChatGPT already knows how trusts and K-1s work in general. Add X1 as an app in developer mode and it can pull the details of yours from the records you've added to X1, with the document behind each answer.

Your CPA has the K-1, your attorney has the trust, and the property file is in a folder somewhere. With X1 connected, ChatGPT works from the whole household record, so you can see how those pieces fit together.

Connect X1 to ChatGPT in five steps.

On a paid ChatGPT plan, turn on the setting called Developer mode in ChatGPT on the web, then add X1. You also need an X1 account, and a free one works.

    Turn on developer mode

    Open Settings and turn on Developer mode. In most accounts it sits under Security and login. Some workspaces put it under Apps, then Advanced settings. On a Business plan, only admins and owners can turn it on, each for themselves, so ask one of them to set up X1 and publish it to the workspace.

    Start a new app

    Open ChatGPT Plugins and choose the plus button. If your account shows Apps instead, choose Create there. You'll see a form for a new app.

    Add X1

    Name it X1, paste https://mcp.x1wealth.com/mcp as the server address, and choose OAuth for sign-in. If your form has a Scan Tools button, choose it now.

    Sign in with X1 and create the app

    An X1 sign-in window opens. Sign in with the X1 account that holds your household record and approve the access. When ChatGPT has read X1's tools, choose Create.

    Pick X1 and check that it works

    In a chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and pick X1. Ask "Use X1: what does X1 have on file for our trust?" and open the document it cites. If no source comes back, check that X1 was picked for that message and that the trust is in X1 and open to your account.

Start with a question you can check.

  • Use X1. A K-1 from our fund just arrived. What does it say, what's unclear, and what should I ask my CPA?

    Naming X1 at the start tells ChatGPT to answer from your record, and the K-1 gives it something real to check.

  • Use X1: according to our records, which trust owns the rental property we hold through our LLC? Cite each document.

    It checks ownership against your documents instead of something ChatGPT half remembers from an old chat.

  • Use X1 to get me ready for my CPA meeting. What's still open, and can you draft a short list of questions?

    You walk in with a draft you can edit, built from what is actually open.

What ChatGPT can do with X1.

  • Answer questions from your household record, with the document behind each answer.
  • Search your own documents for the passage that supports a fact.
  • Show the businesses, trusts, and properties in your record, and the changes waiting for you to confirm.
  • Check that a document you sent arrived, and add a new one to your vault. X1 asks for your approval when a step needs it.
  • Walk a capital call notice from the day it lands to the day it's handled.

ChatGPT can reach only what your own X1 account can see. If your record doesn't cover a question, X1 tells you rather than making something up.

If a step doesn't work.

You can't find Developer mode
Look under Settings, then Security and login, and under Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings. Which plans get developer mode depends on your account, and on Business only admins and owners can turn it on. On Enterprise and Edu, workspace permissions decide who can use it.
Your team can't see X1 yet
In workspaces, a new app starts as a draft. You can test your draft in a chat yourself; an admin or owner publishes it for everyone else in the workspace.
ChatGPT answers without using X1
Pick X1 from Developer mode in the + menu, or mention X1 in the message. Starting with "Use X1" helps.
Your X1 sign-in has expired
Open X1 under Settings, then Apps or Plugins, find its connection controls, and reconnect with the X1 account that holds your household.
X1 connects but some tools are missing
Open the app's details and refresh its tools. In a workspace, an admin may need to review the refreshed app before it works again.

Questions about ChatGPT and X1.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Yes. Custom apps in ChatGPT run through developer mode, which is for paid plans. OpenAI's help pages differ on exactly which plans get what, so check Settings in your own account. In a workspace, its settings decide who can create and use apps.
Can I use a free X1 account?
Yes. A free X1 account connects the same way, with a vault that holds up to 10 documents.
Will ChatGPT use X1 in every chat?
No. You pick X1 for the message where you want it, and pick it again when a later message needs your record. Everything else in ChatGPT works as it always has.
Could ChatGPT reach another family's records?
No. ChatGPT only reaches the records your own X1 account can see.
How do I disconnect X1?
Open X1 under Settings, then Apps or Plugins, and choose Disconnect in its connection controls. What ChatGPT already said in earlier chats, or saved to memory, stays under ChatGPT's own settings.
Can ChatGPT move money through X1?
No. X1 doesn't trade or move money, in ChatGPT or anywhere else.
